Customer Relationship Management or Should I Say: Who Argues Loudest Wins?

Why CRM is important?

I had an experience recently whereby I ended up in an argument with a supplier over what he thought he had supplied me and what I knew that I had received.

I am sure there are probably many of you out there reading this that can relate to that statement.

Let me begin from the beginning. I ordered a service for which I paid the supplier a fairly large amount of money to deliver something that I thought at the time was a fairly simple exercise. I was wrong.

The person I spoke to assumed, and we all know what that means, that the job had been done and all was well! It wasn’t. The job was only half done, and half the issues still had not been resolved. to say I was annoyed was an understatement. So the long back and forth on email started and we played the blame game for about a week. He stated that as far as he was concerned, the job was complete and everything that had been requested had been done. I then told him it hadn’t and he did not believe me, and he told me so! Do you think that he was right in this context, he disagreed with me and told me so! Please SHARE your opinions with the buttons above and below this post.

Who Uses Email to Talk to People on a Daily Basis? Does it work?

I eventually realised that back and forth emails accomplish nothing but confusion of the parties involved. Get off the email and talk on the phone or in person. I did both, and we started to get somewhere. Suffice it to say, the supplier has now rectified most of what they should have to start with, but due to communication issues, I have had to pay extra to complete a job I thought was all inclusive. Do you think this is right?

I might add at this juncture, that the job is now almost 4 months outstanding, where it should have been complete within about a week, had it been done correctly in the first place and had the supplier representative listened attentively to the desires and requests of his customer. Anyway we are progressing and I think the job will be complete by the end of May, so progress right? But do you think once the job is finally complete that I will be doing business with this supplier again? Please give me your thoughts?

What I have Learned from This experience?

Email is not the be all and end all of communication.

Get on the phone and talk to people, you will solve so much more by talking to them.

If the phone does not work, go and talk to them in person, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Don’t ever argue with the customer and tell them that they are wrong before checking your facts and even then, never tell them they are wrong!

The customer may not always be right, but they will always be the customer and hence they put money in your pocket, do not give them any reason not to!

Positive experiences with suppliers are noted down and we make mental notes that the experience has been great. Should we tell more people about the experience, for sure! Do we, No! Statistics say that we only mention them to between 1 – 2 people!

Negative experiences statistically will get mentioned to at least 7 – 10 people, so watch out if you are supplying bad service to your customers.

So, What Next? What Do You Think?

Treat your customers as you would expect to be treated. Never argue with them and always present facts, never surmise or assume anything as these kind of thoughts will lead you down the road to no customers. At the end of the day, you need customers to run your business, not all customers are equal and some are just downright trouble from beginning to end.

You can decide who you want to do business with but ensure that when you make those decisions, you make them from an objective, unbiased business point of view. They cost too much to manage, they are costing you money rather than making you money etc.

I would love to get your valuable feedback on this issue, please let me know what you think?

Facing The Giants – Never Give Up, Never Back Down, Never Lose Faith!

There are times when I do not want to get out of bed in the morning. There are times when not only do I not want to get out of bed in the morning but I also do not want to do any work for the day! I am sure you have all experienced some of what I am speaking about? If you have please SHARE and COMMENT either below this post or above with the buttons provided!

Anyway, it is on days like that when we all need a bit of a push, something that catches our attention and motivates us to do better, be better, provide more value to the world and in general be a better person, husband, father or anything else you can think of! This movie does just that, and indeed did it for me.

Now, it is at this time that I need to say that the movie does have a Christian theme running through it. If this is not your thing, I fully understand, each to his own, but if you choose not to watch due to adverse feelings about Christianity, you would be missing out!

It is just the type of movie that you should be watching to get you up and out of the despair you find yourself in.

I took a short excerpt out of one section of the movie related to achievement. This is one of the best parts of the movie and a real emotional roller coaster. You realise the real potential in all of us if we just didn’t quit. If we just persevered when the going got tough and the way ahead was a bit foggy. We have no idea how great we can be if we never test our ability, if we always play safe and if we jump from opportunity to opportunity without truly committing ourself to one path!

Do yourself a favour and watch this movie. You will be inspired! I was! Please see my full “Movie Review” to get an all around perspective of this movie!

What I Learnt from No Excuses 3!

How The Successful People in our Industry Network and Make Contacts? (Networking Abilities!)

So anyway, I am now back in the UK, and trying to ground myself after an incredible week. You know I have heard the line, Attend Events, Attend Events, since I have been in Network Marketing but until this event never understood why? Now I do!

The most successful people in this industry know how to have fun. They know when to let their hair down and when it is time to work! And they talk to people! They do not sit in the corner and think that they are unimportant and nobody will listen to what they have to say! They get up, full of confidence and belief in what they stand for and they go and talk to people. It is all about connecting, not puking on people as Todd Falcone would say but actually connecting and finding out about the other person. Make them feel important and when they talk, actually listen to what they have to say, you will be amazed at the results. But you have to get up and go and connect, nobody will come and find you if you are hiding in a deep dark corner, afraid of your own shadow! If you got up and connected, PLEASE COMMENT AND SHARE your experience!

What are other people doing right now and having Success at that I can copy?

Wow, what are they not doing? It seems that whichever way you look at it, people in this industry are making tons of cash. They are not all doing the same exact thing to generate the cash, but there are intrinsic things at the heart of everybody’s business that is exactly the same!

One of those things is who is your target prospect? Who is the one person you are talking to with all of your marketing efforts? Who do you want to attract to your business with the copy that you write and the content that you deliver? In order to be successful in this business you must know who you are targeting. Without knowing who your target prospect is, you will be dead in the water before you have even started. I thought I had a handle on my target prospect but not until I did an exercise with Sonia Stringer, did I realise I had it all wrong! You would do well to check out her website! And if you are a guy, just ignore the woman aspect, her content is good for anybody, it is just that she primarily works with women in business!

The Opportunity to meet Like Minded Individuals and to Make New Friends and Surround Myself with People like me Who are on the Same Page!

Boy, oh boy did I get to meet some fantastic people. I would say that I have formed some friendships that will be here long term. I connected with people who were genuinely interested in me as I was in them. They want you to succeed and will go out of their way to assist you in getting to your goals. To name some of these awesome people:

Beki Dunmire

Robyn Vaughan

Peeps, I love you all. Thank you for making the experience a truly remarkable one!

An Opportunity to get Feedback on my Own Business Right Now!

Boy did I get it! What I liked about some of the feedback I got, even though it was not nice to hear was that it came from the heart. It was feedback designed to help me improve and learn about what i was doing wrong, it was designed to help me make the right decisions so I can move forward. Many times when we get feedback from people, be it from loved ones or from friends, it comes from a negative place. It is designed to hurt and belittle rather than improve and grow!

At these events you will meet some rather remarkable people and I do not refer to the speakers but to the attendees that you will meet. People just like you who want the same things and are prepared to sacrifice so they can live their dreams. These people who will help you get what you want, without a thought about what they want. They are the people you want to be around, to be associating with, not teh naysayers whose only task is to ensure you do not earn more or become more than they are!

The Title of The event Says It All! NO EXCUSES! Take Action and Make 2012 The Best Year of Your Life!

It is very simple. To have no excuses, to take action and to get your business and your new life underway. Too many people let life get in their way of living a great life, when all it really takes is a little focus, commitment and consistency. Persevere and never quit and you will be surprised at what you are capable of achieving in your life? Do you agree with this statement? IF you do, PLEASE COMMENT BELOW AND SHARE with the buttons above!

Vegas Baby! How many times I have heard that statement over the past 3 – 4 months I do not know. A lot! LOL. But, what you have in two words is an expression of exactly what you find when you get here!

Everybody says it when you first get into Network Marketing, attend events! You don’t really understand why it is so important and what it means until you actually attend an event! No Excuses has been on my radar since it first started and has been a goal of mine to attend for quite some time now. But not until recently was I in a position to be able to do this.

Now that I am here, I am so pumped and excited I cannot wait for the event to start later today! I am planning 2012 to be an outstanding year for my business. No Excuses is my jump off point, no going back, there are no stop signs after this point, it is full speed ahead from here on out!

What I am Hoping to Learn(& Do!) From The No Excuses 3 Event!

How the successful people in our industry network and make contacts. (Isn’t networking what we are all about?)

What other people who are having success are doing right now and how I can emulate them to increase the results I am getting and take my business to the next level.

An opportunity to meet like minded individuals and to make new friends who do and like what I do! A chance to surround myself with these people.

An opportunity to get some feedback on where I am currently. What I am doing right, what I am doing wrong and how to improve every aspect of my business!

The title of the event says it all: No Excuses! To not have any and to just get on with it and take action to make 2012 my best year ever!

Lets’s Connect at The Event!

Are you going to be at the No Excuses 3 Event? If you are, lets connect and get to know each other. I will be there from noon today when registration opens. Look for me and I will look for you!

I look forward to connecting with you and making new friends.

For only the second year in more than a decade, the prestigious San Francisco Mint is once again striking Silver American Eagles.

From 1989 to 2000, Silver Eagles were struck concurrently at the West Point and San Francisco mint facilities. In 2001, however, production was limited exclusively to the US Mint in West Point.

But, due to the unprecedented demand for Silver Eagles, the San Francisco Mint has once again been pressed into service in the production of these magnificent coins. When it was announced at the beginning of the year that the San Francisco Mint would be producing Silver Eagles, collectors everywhere became excited.

The chance to own one of the few coins struck in San Francisco was too valuable of an opportunity to miss. But there was a catch; the coins would be produced without a mint mark.

Fortunately, ANACS had a simple solution. Sealed Treasury boxes, known as ‘Monster Boxes’, are shipped with a security strap identifying the mint location. ANACS recently announced that they would certify coins from the San Francisco Mint as long as they were submitted in the sealed Treasury boxes as proof of their origin.

It is estimated that less than 10% of the total number of 2012 Silver Eagles will be produced at the San Francisco Mint. Considerably fewer will be certified, with only a fraction of them receiving a perfect grade of MS70.

FEAR! The word itself has meaning and tends to make everybody sit up and notice. Why is that? What is FEAR anyway? My understanding of FEAR or should I say, my version of events is the following: “False Expectations Appearing Real!”

FEAR normally springs to mind when people want more from life than what they currently have. In other words, they want to get out of their comfort zone. Somebody who is not happy with where they are currently in their personal and professional life, decides that they are going to do something about it.

This is where the FEAR strikes, because there is now a certain element of risk attached to this foray from the comfort zone. In some instances your risk exposure will be fairly low and insignificant, while in others depending on what you want to achieve, will be significantly higher. People get nervous, spouses get nervous and people then retreat into themselves and head back to their comfort zones.

FEAR

I understand this. There is this quote: “Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained!” Never a truer word was spoken. This does not mean, however, that you need to withdraw your entire life savings and spend it on the next business opportunity that you feel fits in with your goals. Having risk is nothing new. Humans have been experiencing risk ever since they first emerged from their caves and chased down mammoths in the freezing tundra for food. Many died in this pursuit, but the benefits outweighed the risk.

In order to progress and improve your life, you have to be willing to take risks. However, I do not mean throw caution to the wind and walk into the middle of the road in front of a car. Do your due diligence, check the offer and make sure it fits with you. But at the end of the day, you will need to make a decision and there will be an element of risk attached to your decision. You will just need to decide how much risk you are prepared to stomach! The greater the rewards, typically the greater the risk.

I will leave you with the following story related to risk and FEAR by the Indian Philosopher – Osho.

“A man walking in the night slipped off a rock. Afraid that he would fall further down thousands of feet, because he knew the place he was in was a very deep valley, so he took hold of a branch that was hanging over the rock.

In the night all he could see was a bottomless abyss. He shouted; his own voice was reflected back – there was nobody to hear him.

You can imagine that man and his whole night of terror. Every moment there was death, his hands were becoming cold, he was losing his grip…

Osho - Indian Philosopher

And as the sun came out, he looked down and laughed; there was no abyss. Just six inches down there was a big flat rock. He could have rested the whole night, slept well – the rock was big enough, but instead his whole night was a nightmare.

From my own experience I can say to you: The FEAR is not more than 6 inches deep. Now it is up to you as to whether you want to go on clinging to the branch and turn your life into a nightmare, or whether you would like to leave the branch and stand on your own two feet…”

This is a bit of a personal post. An update about our lives, my children and their lives and where and what we are all doing with ourselves. This is after all my personal blog and it actually has not been utilised any time recently to blog about that which is closest to my heart and is my reason for being!

I am a father of two boys, one aged 11 going on 12 and one aged 15 going on 16. Cory my eldest is starting to make me a seriously proud father and I have no doubt in my mind or in my heart that he will continue to make me the proudest father ever.

My wife(Toni), bless her, is still my biggest supporter, even though we do not always see eye to eye. As she says, she has my back! It does not seem to matter what avenue of business I pursue or learn about, she is always there supporting me.

Let me give you a brief synopsis of what we have been up to over the past few months. Our citizenship test has finally come and gone and both my wife and I have passed and we can now move on to the next step which is submitting our application for permanent residency in the UK. We now also have a date for that appointment early in May, and would you believe it we have to go to Cardiff in Wales for that.

My wife home schools both the boys, a decision we made early on when we first arrived in the UK and a decision that we are both extremely happy we made and extremely confident that we have made the right decision in terms of our boys welfare. Both boys are happy and well adjusted and both know how to do a monthly, two weekly or even weekly grocery shop as they go with their mother when she does it. They know how she writes up her grocery list, they know what her budget is for each shop and both of them are quite confident when it comes to purchasing items themselves now.

Ty, the youngest is an extremely bright boy. He is a very fast learner and even surprises my wife somedays by being able to explain to her what he has learnt for the day fairly easily and without much swotting having taken place. He is not the most active 11 year old and so some of the goals we have set for him this year is that firstly he will learn to swim, secondly he will try a new sport and give it a good go, at least 10 times before he is allowed to say that he does not like it and wants to do something else and thirdly, a second activity, either another sport or get involved in a club or youth group. Get him out and involved with other kids. Problem with him is that he has his old man right where he wants him!

Cory, well what can I say, other than that he continues to amaze me with what he has achieved in so little time and what is really possible when you put your mind to it. He just never quits. Once he gets it in his mind he wants to do something, he goes out and does it, just gets it done. We all could do with learning from him. He is a Lance Corporal in the Army Cadets and has been selected for numerous trips, that involve doing and learning a many great new things and just yesterday, he was shortlisted for an adventurous 10 day training camp in Germany and Bavaria with the cadets. Prior to this he has been selected out of the whole country for a trip to South Africa with 19 other cadets on a three week trip of a lifetime, trekking through the Drakensberg mountains and through Lesotho.

He is also completing his Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this year, he completed Bronze last year. He has quite a few more things to go yet, but is making great progress, even though it is tough going. Did I mention he is also a youth leader for the local Church Youth Group and is doing a fantastic job. Which means at the moment he is seldom at home, always away on some camp or group / youth outing.

Life is good. It can be stressful at times, but it is definitely moving in the right direction, we are moving forward and we are growing as a family. We need to do more as a family, and one of my plans is to get us all mountain bikes over the summer and to schedule outings in the local forests, take a packed lunch and just get away, I think we will have a really great time together.

So, do you know the answer yet? Some of you may have guessed by now, many may still be guessing! Let me remove the dilemma you all find yourselves in; LOL!

I am a South African living in the United Kingdom, so I am on a visa, not for long though, will soon have ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) or permanent residency as it is otherwise known in other countries, but that is a post for another day.

Alien Smiley Face

Right now what that means is I need a visa to be here in the UK, which I have, don’t worry, I am not an illegal or anything like that! But what that means is that I also need a visa for the US, if I want to travel there, I cannot like most UK citizens do the visa waiver program(ESTA), pity because it is so much easier.

In order to get an appointment at the Embassy, you have to fill in a form online, quite comprehensive too I might add. I then had to upload a photograph and then phone them to book the actual appointment date, on a premium rate number I might add. All good though as the end goal is what’s important. I then had to travel from the Isle of Wight up to London and wait in a queue for about 3 hours and then a further hour of waiting until I had my interview with a consul officer. Fairly straightforward once I saw him, he asked me a few questions but approved my visa – yayyyy, first hurdle over!

Well, second hurdle, the first was getting tickets, which I had done a week earlier, luckily there is a refund option! Are you perhaps getting what I am referring to yet? I am talking about the No Excuses Summit 3 in las Vegas in April!

The first hurdle was getting the tickets, which I have. The second hurdle was getting a visa and knowing that I was going, come hell or high water. I had set as one of my objectives this year to attend a major event and when the emails started to come through, I knew I somehow had to attend.

The third hurdle was finding a flight that was not overly expensive and was shorter than 18 hours of travel time, which I have done, it just means I fly into Las Vegas two days before the summit starts, but no biggie, I get to have a look at the city while I am there.

Virgin Atlantic

Fourth and final hurdle was booking a hotel room, I had hoped that there would still be rooms available at The Cosmopolitan with the attendee discount, but they were all sold out so I had to make other plans. Hence The Polo Towers booking, which I did last night and all is now secure for me to attend this years No Excuses 3 Summit! I cannot wait.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have VIP tickets which means I get to mix it up with the speakers after all the talking and presentations are done. This is going to be an awesome experience. One I am sure I will never forget and one that is set to change my business and mine and my family’s life forever.

I would like to share with you a few thoughts that went through my head over the last two weeks while I have been getting my house in order so that I could get to the event in Las Vegas. Please bear in mind I have never been to the US before. I almost quit and asked for a refund for my tickets. With the visa process and then trying to get a flight, hotel etc. I literally felt at one point that I was not going to manage to get it all done and actually get to go. I actually created obstacles where there were none.

It is simply a matter of small steps. You can liken this to any goal you want to achieve. First step was getting my visa, and within that bigger step there were smaller steps, fill in a form, phone and book an appointment, go to London and stand in a queue, get visa! You get it?

Next step was getting a flight. Price comparison sites research, check flights and days for arrival etc. I actually saved myself about £90 over my original journey checker.

Next step, book hotel accommodation. Smaller steps; again, price comparison sites, check prices and dates, compare amenities and make a decision. Here I saved myself £300 over my initial look at hotels and the fact that I was going to stay at The Cosmopolitan. I am a happy bunny! Some spending money, to take home a few souvenirs from my visit!

Quitter

I am reminded about a little saying that I have used for many years and that has at times kept me going through some very dark times. ”Quitters Never Win, and Winners Never Quit”. Everybody in this industry says that events are crucial to a person’s success or failure. This then is a situation where I will never be beaten because I will never quit. I am absolutely pumped up about going to No Excuses 3.

I have been to events before but none as big as this one, so I am really looking forward to connecting and networking with loads of people. I aim to be like a sponge and learn, learn, learn.

To think, I almost sabotaged myself! Fo those of you that also desire to attend a big even, maybe it is No Excuses or a Tony Robbins event, you CAN do it! Anything is possible if you put your mind to the task, apply yourself and work step by step towards your goal. I look forward to seeing all of you at the event!

If you have been following along, this is post number five in which I have been discussing common mistakes that network marketing newbies make in this industry. One of the biggest mistakes to make is:

Passing Negative Downline!

This is an absolute NO NO! Never, Ever pass negative sentiments downline!

If you are a leader, consider yourself a leader or want to be perceived as a leader, Under NO circumstances whatsoever, must you ever pass negative downline!

It is no concern of mine that you may have had a bad day, or perhaps that even one of your downline is your best friend since junior high. Once people have made a decision to join a business, one thing that you must always remember, is they have not joined an opportunity, they have joined YOU! You will have in some way, shape or form convinced them or shown them that you are the right person to lead them to what they want out of life.

If you do decide to ignore this message and take your negative thoughts, feelings, or whatever downline, you will not only destroy the confidence that these people have in you but you will destroy your business as well, because they will in turn do it to their downline!

When you have negative challenges and thoughts or feelings and feel that you need to discuss it with someone take it UPLINE! Always UP, never DOWN!

How about this one for a classic mistake:

Re-Inventing The Wheel

Even seasoned networkers make this mistake, so don’t feel alone here. Just learn from this and ensure you don’t do this as well. If your primary company has been established for a while and or perhaps has even tapped into the global market, it really is very crucial that you follow their system as this will then be aligned with the company’s direction and of course it has already been tested and proven successful.

Do not try and re-invent and come up with your own system. If you do, you may find that a crucial element called duplication is not happening with your downline and if your team is not duplicating, this could mean a large amount of hurt coming your way!

Network Marketing is not a new profession, it has been around for quite a few decades now. Use the experience and knowledge within your company, learn from it and apply it. Even new start ups in the world of business could benefit from learning from the experience of other companies.

Try to be Yourself

This is potentially one of the worst diseases a distributor can have.

Imagine this scenario, you are looking for a buddy of yours whom you have known since high school. Every time you see him, all you talk is rubbish, and nonsense. When suddenly, you go, “Dude, I have a business that will change your life” Do you not think that your friend will think that perhaps you have taken drugs or something.

Moral of the story is BE YOURSELF! Do not be someone you are not!

Alright, welcome back to the continuation o f our series around Network Marketing pitfalls and what not to do as a newbie network marketer. This is the 4th post in this article series.

A few more points about what Network Marketing is NOT!

It is most definitely not a 9 – 5 JOB! Some people may or may not get away without doing any work in a JOB, because a lot of the time, they will still get their salary. But in Network Marketing, if you don’t put in the effort, you will not get the reward. (What you give is what you get!)

This is most definitely NOT a “Get Rich Quick Scheme”! Most of the big earners in this industry, if not all of them, have all paid the price of admission. Some of them who have made it big quickly are the exception to the rule, not the NORM! All of them have paid their dues in some way, shape or form. Darren Hardy from Success Magazine says that to be successful in this industry, you should commit to at least doing this for 12 months! Robert Kiyosaki says you should commit for 5 years! How long will you commit yourself to being successful?

Quitting Your Job!

What people seem to forget sometimes is that Network Marketing is a business just like any other business. The issue sometimes is the fact that the buy in for Network Marketing is actually quite low. Do not get psyched into thinking that just because you are now in Network Marketing, that everything will be rosy! Do not burn your bridges right from the outset, because you think that just by giving your all at Network Marketing will make you succeed? If you are not doing things the right way, you will very quickly find yourself in a heap of trouble and the financial troubles will start to weigh you down.

There is a saying that goes something like this: “If the only tool I have is a hammer, then all my problems will look like nails.” Well this can be a bit of a problem in Network marketing, especially with any kind of financial pressure, because you will start to see all your prospects like money bags and you will no longer be practising “Attraction Marketing” but “Chasing Marketing”. And you will simply be chasing your prospects away.

Many seasoned Network Marketers have only considered quitting or giving up their jobs only when their MLM business income has at least matched their JOB income. The late and great Jim Rohn, waited until his MLM income was double his salary from his job! And even then he did not want to quit his job because he had such a good story line.

Tricking Your Friends to an Opportunity Meeting!

One mistake that newbies sometimes make is asking friends out for a drink and then casually driving them to an opportunity meeting without informing them about it. I will tell you this, you gain nothing by hiding things from your potential prospects, be open and honest in everything you do with your business, and you will attract people to you.

You will sponsor people with your confidence and your attitude, not with using trickery. This is a long term business, and trickery will only work for about a day before people realised they have been duped! Then where will that leave your business? No prospects, no leads and no distributors! And you will perpetuate the myth that Network Marketing is a scam, don’t do it!
