For anyone wanting to live like a millionaire the concept of time becomes extremely significant. Master the art of time and you could quite literally spend every minute you desired doing something that required as little effort as you thought fit but earned you the most you could earn!
And so, while still in this fantasy, every minute that you desired not to work, you could instead pursue your favourite pastimes…practise your golf swing…go to the gym…play a round of pool..drink iced tea or whatever your favourite drink is by the pool…you get the idea?
But no, we decide to spend our lives in traffic jams, we wait for endless trains that never come and we go to to those pointless meetings, you know the types? The meetings that you get invited to that have no purpose in your life! The meetings where you sit quietly for an hour while other people talk!
If you think about it, the concept of time is a weird construct. Time rushes past our ears like a freakin’ freight train, dulling our minds and tricking us, making us believe that we have no control over our very brief existences. If you analyse it though, that is completely wrong and the truth will set you free…
In reality the older we get, the less there is to experience in this world of ours. Everything becomes familiar and known in our lives and with that familiarity comes routine and with routine comes the freight train of time, rushing by faster and faster with each passing year. Each passing year also becomes far less significant as we get older, probably because it has become a smaller part of our lives, well proportionally speaking anyway.
Do you know the statement…”Where did all the years go?” I have heard many older people say this line, especially Grandparents who see their grandchildren growing up, or you may ask yourself the very same question while paging through an old black and white photo album from your childhood, of good times past.
Do you remember the summers as kid? The summers I remember as a child used to last a lifetime by comparison today. I think that perhaps it is because as kids we just did not understand routine the same way that adults did. Also, remember that much of what we saw as kids, we were experiencing for the first time. I think that is why time seemed very slow back then.
So how do you experience more of what you had as a kid? I think that this is sometimes our biggest problem as adults, we do not know how to have fun any more! We are always working, always trying to earn more money, well, I say go and have more fun.
My challenge to you and everyone who reads this post is to go and try as many new things as you possibly can from this point forward, really challenge yourself to experience the life you have in front of you: go out and do something that you have really wanted to do for ages but never got around to doing, find a way. It could be as simple as going snowboarding…learning French or some other foreign language…go to Las Vegas and spin a roulette wheel…go snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef…a parachute jump…or taking your family to Disney World…and then all you have to do is relax, enjoy and watch the years stretch out in front of you!

Hi Alan,
Mastering time is important. There are enough hours in the day to work and have fun, if we manage our time properly. Having fun is good for us! I am actually thinking of doing something fun that I’ve never done before. I want to take ballroom dancing lessons. So I accept your challenge!
@jkbiegel Nice one Jamella, that’s one to you.
What a fantastic post and reminder to make use of our time… live it up! thanks Alan/
@johnmoussan Thanks for visiting John.
Great post John and I quite agree we all need different challenges as we go through life
@DaveSharp Dave, it is the challenges in life that keep us not only fit, but also sane and healthy.
Great thought provoking post Alan. I was just thinking yesterday about how fast time flies…the human experience is awesome. The challenge is how to take it all in and how to spend the most time in the areas that give us the most pleasure…good stuff, thanks!
@TerryPetrovick Yes, we have awesome lives, pity most of us don’t stop long enough to actually enjoy them!
Great post Alan! Too many people wait and wait to start living the life they want to lead. WHY?!? It drives me nuts! We have such a short limited time on this earth so why not ride hard and live it up.
Great post
Jess
@JessicaAGeorgia I know, tell me about it. Go out and live the life you were meant to now, don’t wait until the sun and the moon align before you will get off your backside and enjoy life!
Thanks for the comment Jess.
